frequently asked questions

Do I apply to Virginia Tech or Georgetown?
Prospective students may make application to either university. Whichever university you choose to apply to then becomes your “home” university.

How will I be billed for courses taken at the partner university?
Students will be billed only by their home institution for all courses taken within the program, regardless of which institution teaches each course.

What fees will I be required to pay?
In general, students are subject to the fees of their home institution.  For example, students enrolled through Georgetown will be required to pay a one-time ($35) Student Records Fee which covers lifetime transcripts.  Students enrolled through Virginia Tech will not pay this fee but will pay the standard small fee for each transcript request.

Will I have access to partner university facilities?
Students will have access to the facilities, such as the classrooms and libraries of both universities.

Will my transcript show courses taken at both universities?
Yes, it will display courses taken at both universities.  Students will request their official transcript from their “home” university.

May I transfer credits?
Transfer of credit is generally not allowed. If a requirement is waived based on previous course work, students must take additional elective(s) to reach the 30-hour minimum required by the program.

What degree will I be awarded?
Graduates will be awarded a Masters of Science from the Virginia Tech and Georgetown University partnership.  The diploma will include the seals and signatures of both universities.

Will I have to travel to Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech courses?
No! Virginia Tech offers many courses and degree programs in Northern Virginia. Courses for this program will be held in our facility in Falls Church (directly across from Metro).
